Barton Cobert received is MD and did his Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology training at New York University in Manhattan. He then did a hepatology fellowship at the Hopital Beaujon in Paris, France. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He was in private gastroenterology practice in New York City for several years.
He is currently Global Head of Drug Safety and Pharmacovigilance at Novartis Consumer Health in New Jersey. Previous to that, he was head of worldwide drug safety at Schering Plough from 1993-2003. He retired from Schering in January 2004. He held other positions in the industry at Hoechst-Roussel (now Sanofi-Aventis), Ives Laboratories (now Wyeth), Becton Dickinson and Forest labs. He has been involved in clinical research (phases I, II, III and IV) and safety for both drugs and devices. He was a PhRMA representative to ICH and participated in Expert Working Groups in the areas of GCP, PSURs and E2B. He has presented at
